Telehealth Counselling for Men

WHAT IS TELEHEALTH MEN’S THERAPY?

Male telehealth counselling is counselling provided over an online video call using Zoom. Zoom is encrypted and has high security and privacy standards. It is a safe platform to discuss everything personal that comes up in your counselling sessions online. Using telehealth counselling, you receive the same high-quality service from your counsellor, without the need to visit a practice.

BENEFITS OF ONLINE COUNSELLING

  • ou can engage in online counselling in the comfort of your own home, office or another private area.

  • Telehealth men’s therapy is flexible and accessible. You can use Zoom anywhere in the world. If you’re away for work or travelling, you won’t miss a session.

  • Telehealth counselling for men can be less daunting as you’re behind a screen and in a familiar environment.

  • You’ll save time as you don’t have to commute to a practice, find parking or worry about traffic.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN COUNSELLING ONLINE VS IN PERSON?

Some people worry the quality of counselling will be different with telehealth compared to in-person therapy, but this is not the case. Your telehealth men’s counsellor will always be able to understand and meet your needs via online counselling sessions.

In-person therapy does allow clients to bring their needs to a neutral ground in a practice. If this is a concern for you, there are other places you can engage in telehealth counselling. All you need is a stable internet connection and a phone or computer with video functioning. If you have this, you will save so much time and energy using male telehealth counselling services compared to in-person therapy.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR COUNSELLING SESSIONS ONLINE?

  • Computer, Laptop or Mobile Phone

  • External Webcam or In-Built Video Camera Support

  • Zoom Application (See below for how to download the app)

  • Internet Access - Ideally you would have access to 5G (4G is sufficient) on mobile and NBN 50 (NBN 25 is sufficient).

  • Earphones (Optional) - Using earphones during counselling sessions reduces the possibility of feedback and audio issues as well as increases the audio quality.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FOR MEN’S TELEHEALTH COUNSELLING:

If you’re familiar with how Zoom works, skip the first three steps.

  1. You can access Zoom from any web browser or phone for free. Downloading the Zoom application will make logging into your counselling telehealth sessions online quicker and easier. To download it, visit this website for Microsoft computers and this website for Macs. If you’ll use your phone for online counselling, visit your app store to download Zoom.

  2. After downloading the application, you can make a Zoom account by clicking the “sign up” button. Creating an account is a simple process, only requiring an email address and password.

  3. If you haven’t used Zoom before, jump on before your telehealth sessions to test your video and microphone and make sure your internet is stable.

  4. After you set an appointment time with the practice or your men’s telehealth counsellor, you will receive an email invitation for the session. The invitation will have the date and time of your appointment, the Zoom login link and a password to enter the session.

  5. Click the link in the email that reads “Join Zoom meeting” at the time of your appointment, and you’ll be directed to the Zoom session.

  6. Your counsellor will join you on the other end of the meeting and be ready to chat.

  7. At the end of your session, simply exit the meeting.

WHAT IS PHONE COUNSELLING FOR MEN?

Phone counselling is a safe and private method of communicating with your counsellor over a phone call. If you’re new to counselling or find the thought of it daunting, phone counselling is a great option. Similar to men’s online telehealth counselling, you receive the same high-quality service from your counsellor, without the need to visit a practice or see your counsellor online.

BENEFITS OF PHONE COUNSELLING SESSIONS
